Horse Skill-A-Thon Contest
The Arizona National Livestock Show Horse Skill-A-Thon is an educational competition designed to test participants’ knowledge and skills related to the equine industry, including horse care, management, and industry practices. This contest provides youth with an opportunity to apply their understanding of equine science while developing problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking skills essential for success in agriculture and equine-related fields.
Participants will rotate through a series of hands-on stations that evaluate their knowledge of equine topics. These stations may include identification of horse breeds, equipment, feeds, and tack, as well as questions related to horse health, nutrition, management, and safety. Contestants will complete both individual and team-based rotations, allowing them to demonstrate independent knowledge while also working collaboratively to solve problems and analyze scenarios related to the equine industry.
In addition to being a competition, the Horse Skill-A-Thon provides valuable educational opportunities for youth involved in 4-H, FFA, and other organized equestrian programs. Participants gain practical experience in decision-making, observation, and teamwork while reinforcing industry standards and best practices. This contest promotes learning, fosters a deeper understanding of the equine industry, and encourages hands-on experiences that prepare young people for future leadership roles and careers within agriculture and the equine industry.
